“Paper has properties that differ fundamentally from the other fibres I use: its lightness and rustling, its clean natural tone, its whiteness and the glow of colour.”
FOUNDER, ARTIST RITVA PUOTILA
Paper yarn innovation
We were the first in the world to use paper twine in home decor products. We know from decades of experience that paper twine is a unique natural material. It is strong, moisture resistant and easy to clean.
The legacy of Ritva Puotila
Woodnotes co-founder Ritva Puotila is an internationally awarded textile artist whose work has been included in the MoMa collections. She got the idea for using paper string in home textiles during one of her private art exhibitions.
Handmade products
Paper yarn is spun from food-grade kraft paper, which is made from a renewable resource, wood. Our paper yarn carpets are woven in Finland, in Lapua, Ostrobothnia. They are cut to size and finished by hand.
